I met Daniel many many years ago when he only 14 years old. He came to stay at my house during out "independence fest" in bloomington in 2002. The idea of the fest was to spend one month living like we did when we were in middle school. You know, when summer meant freedom and fun. The plan was to have swimming parties, soapbox derby's cook outs and stuff like that every day and show every night (almost every night). It went well.
Daniel showed up with this engineers cap and red bandana on. He stayed for the whole month and was one of the better of the 40 house guests we had (i had a big house).
I didn't meet him again for a few years and when I did, he was all grown up and serious. All in black. It was a puppet show that me and Sam and our pal Bernie took on tour, playing a house show with against me in daytona beach FL. Daniel was one of the few people there. It was funny. An empty house in the suburbs, Against Me, Puppets and Daniel Daytona (as he was being called).
Over the years I kept bumping into Daniel in various places and I was always pleased to see him. Then in 2007 I moved to Gainesville and now He and I share a mutual dislike for people who fail to clean up after a show at Wayward Council.
He is a solid guy.
So, when he said "will you release a Dead Friends CD. I said yes. Because he is a good friend and they are a good band even though they are not pop or folk punk. The other guys are really cool too but I have known Daniel for a much longer time.
