DEFIANCE OHIO
I have known Ryan Woods (bass) of D.OH. for many, many years. We first met way back in 1997 or so when my friend Adam White, who was running a label called WHITE HOUSE RECORDS, "discovered" Ryan's ska-punk band, SHORT MILLIE. Adam was planning on releasing them and he asked us (OPERATION: CLIFF CLAVIN) to play a show with them in louisville KY. over the next few years we crossed paths and after a while SHORT MILLIE trimmed down to just the cool members (including Ryan and his brother Pete, now in the band, THE GOOD GOOD) and we became friends. SHORT MILLIE ended and COBRA KIA started (screamo? emo?). then after that there was the metal-core band, MEMENTO MORI and just at the end of that band i got an email from Ryan seeing if we (now THE DEVIL IS ELECTRIC) wanted to do a short tour with his new acoustic band (DEFIANCE OHIO). the tour was based around the big new years eve show hosted by SOOPHIE NUN SQUAD in little rock, AR. The tour was about 5-6 shows. We played little rock, memphis (at the LUCERO warehouse), louisville KY, bloomington IN, columbus OH, and Cincinnati OH. since then, DEFIANCE OHIO has added a lot of new members and developed their folk punk sound and became one of the best known "folk punk" bands. they have been touring non-stop and have toured in Europe and Australia. They have many other records out besides their one release on PIX. they have three full lengths available on NO IDEA RECORDS.

Defiance, Ohio is an anti-capitalist, largely acoustic punk (typically referred to as folk-punk) band from Bloomington, Indiana. They are known for their extensive touring and intense, enthusiastic live shows. They are named after the real town Defiance, Ohio. The band features a violin, cello, and double bass. The band is also known for being involved with fellow DIY minded record label Plan-It-X Records, often touring with many bands on Plan-It-X Records and participating in multiple Plan-It-X Fests.
They have released two full length LPs, Share What Ya Got and The Great Depression, as well as a handful of split recordings. In the DIY spirit, much of their music is put out by the band themselves, producing their own CDs and CD-Rs, as well as allowing anyone to download all of their music for free from their website under a Creative Commons Attribute-NonCommerical-ShareAlike license. When not releasing their own music, the band works with independent record labels in order to produce their releases. Typically these have been smaller independent labels. However, the band's second and most recent full-length, The Great Depression, was released on the more notable though still staunchly independent No Idea Records.
After making the decisions to work with No Idea, the band felt a need to explain their actions and maintain the sense of dialog that they feel has been consistent in how they've operated themselves as a band. They said that they would have preferred to release the album themselves, but that they did not have the capacity to do so while continuing to keep older releases in print. Their third full-length CD, The Fear, The Fear, The Fear, was released on No Idea on December 4th.
Some members from Defiance, Ohio also participate in another pop-punk band, Pretty Hot.
