DELAY
I first met DELAY when i was on tour as CAPTAIN CHAOS with GORDAN GANO'S ARMY (featuring RUSS SUBSTANCE) from Southampton, England. Ryan and Austin, the DELAY twins, booked us a show in cleveland, OH. at the tower of treason. we were driving around in the school bus and i think we took them by surprise when we pulled up in front of their parents house in Berea, OH. they made us vegetarian chili and it was really nice of them and kinda cute because they were worried about how it tasted since they didn't know how to cook and didn't know how to make vegetarian food. the show was fun. LOS GATOS NEGROS played too and then DELAY played. they were really good and so nice to us. we went back to their house afterwards and watched mean girls and played with the huge family dog. it was good. the next year in college, in columbus, OH. they decided to move off campus and get a house, a punk house, and start doing shows. there are hundreds of touring bands out there that are very glad they did. they have totally changed the columbus music scene and made columbus one of the best stops on tour.
it's hard to talk about DELAY without also mentioning their awesome friends like, Patt (who does shout out loud screen printing) Lisa who is in a band with ryan called LETTERS TO THE MOON, Stephanie who is in a band with JESSE called HOT IRON, Libby, the DELAY ROADIE, Monkee who is always pulling his wang out and doing something funny with it. pretty much all of their friends are cool. i think they make people cool.

"BIOGRAPHY" :
(Written by Libby Zay)
I suppose you could say the story of Delay begins back when it's members were obsessed with things like kickball and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Twin brothers Ryan and Austin Eilbeck met their future best friend (and drummer) Jesse Wither when they were in the first grade. A few years later, they somehow got a hold of a Green Day tape that changed their lives, as it did mine. They were inspired to start a band and each mowed lawns to save money for insturments. In 1997, they used Mr. Eilbeck's 4-track recorder to make their first tape which is pretty much guaranteed to make you laugh.
My first encounter with Delay was at our 7th grade talent show. Even back then, they jumped around a whole bunch, got sweaty, and had a knack for losing their voices. I (admittedly) did not like them very much, but eventually warmed up to them about four years later. In High School, they were pretty well liked and started bringing a decent amount of people to shows. All the kids that came to see them weren't considered fans, they were friends.
After being screwed over a bunch of times by various venues, Delay decided to start putting on their own shows at a local community center (the OFCC). We rationalized that if each person payed only a few bucks, we could bring bands from all over the country to our "scene" in Ohio and do it all ourselves. Delay started realizing that the importance of their band went well beyond music. For several years, the OFCC remained a constant place for shows even after Delay moved away.
Delay (and myself) moved to Columbus in 2003 to further our education, live together, and endlessly hang out. If you really want to know, each member of Delay is working on achieving some sort of teaching degree. While in Columbus, Ryan and I were introduced to a totally knew phenomenon - shows in houses! All of us quickly started to become active parts in the punk community that comes together in (and outside of) mildewy basements.
That summer, we booked the first tour, bought a van, and started traveling. It is undescribably awesome knowing that we can travel all over and have awesome friends that live far, far away.
I guess that brings us pretty much up to date. Delay is playing and putting on more shows than ever, and recently recorded a new CD. In my opinion, the best part about Delay is that they are still all about the same things the band was founded on: friends and fun. If you've ever seen or met them, you probably know exactly what I mean.
Footnotes:
(1) Ryan and Jesse became friends while sitting on the tiny carpet in first grade, by playing the fart game.
(2) I have seen a letter addressed to Santa Claus, written by Ryan, asking for a "Green Day Tape". That same year, other requests included a football jersey and Pee Wee Herman bike.
(3) Exception: One year, the Eilbecks received a guitar amp for Christmas as a "joint" gift.
(4) At the time, they had enlisted a lead singer. It is rumored that he now operates the spotlight at a gentleman's club. Jesse also refused to play due to embarassment.
(5) They asked me to make them a website, which I reluctantly did. Somehow, through meeting to update the site, I decided that they weren't so bad afterall.
(6) Many Cleveland venues suck... especially Peabody's.
(7) Jesse: Early Childhood Education. Ryan: English. Austin: Gym.
(8) The show was the Max Levine Ensemble at the 24/7 House.
(9) Ryan suggested that I mention we did all this without parental approval.

RECORD REVIEWS :
DELAY - Jumpstart My Heart 13 tracks of scrappy meodic punk tunes that bring to mind that East Bay sound of bands that Aaron COmetbus drummed for -- Chrimpshine, Pinhead Gunpowder, et al. Enthusiastic, fairly infectious, and with that emotion-on-the-sleeve appeal patented by Against Me! Folks that dig the quirks and catchy riffs of the aforementioned will be suitably enamored with this, I'll wager. Ramsey Kanaan, Maximum Rocknroll
DELAY - Jumpstart My Heart What's not to like about a band that self releases a gem of an album, puts on shows featuring other great bands and themselves, and play some of the catchiest sing along anthems of the new millenium. These champions of everything DIY seem to have it all figured out, and know how to write a killer song or thirteen! Everyone should go to interpunka nd buy this, or just email them at gorillabiscuit2003@yahoo.com and get a copy yourself to sing along with. - Danny, Nuthin Zine
DELAY - Jumpstart My Heart Delay hail from the great state of Ohio. Despite their Midwestern roots, I think they have more of a West coast pop punk vibe than the middle West pop punk vibe. They kinda remind me of Green Day circa 1989. Also, this record has a bit of what I like to call "riding a shopping cart with three wheels down a steep hill." That is, it's not a total smooth ride and there's just enough bumps, shakes and wobbles to keep it interesting. - Pat, Little Type
DELAY - Jumpstart My Heart As I put this on, I hoped and prayed that their handle was some kind of piss-take on Tom DeLay's name and that they were gonna be humorous in a cool and subversive way. Nope. Lame, collegy emo pop is the order of the day here. I found, though, that if you have sharp enough scissors to cut into the disc, it makes for a pretty good ninja star. - Jimmy Alvarado, Razorcake
DELAY - Tuning Out Delay is a melodic punk rock band formed in '97 by two brothers — singer-bassist Austin and singer-guitarist Ryan Eilbeck. The group also includes drummer Jesse Wither. This, the band's third CD, teems with youthful energy (no one in the band is over 20 years old) and smart songwriting that sounds similar to bands such as Dillinger Four and Digger. On Tuning Out the brothers Eilbeck connect seamlessly on vocal harmonies, adding subtle complexities to four-chord songs that don't necessarily require or contain anything too technical. Lyrics such as “Sometimes you feel like you're going nowhere, going nowhere goes way too fast” are sure to strike a chord with many listeners simply because Delay sings with the kids and not to them. - Chris Rager, Cleveland Free Times
